One of the distinguishing features of APN is its implementation of the aging token concept. Originally introduced in 2004, aging tokens allow additional flexibility in providing tokens with some memories about their past. As always, there is an issue of a balance between modeling power and simplicity. Token's age is simply a value \(\eta\in \left[0,1\right]\) that represents this past in a simplified fashion. This value affect the firing time of a transition.
